The Department started in 1950 by the donation given by the princess Niloufer to give good mother and child care. The bed strength in department has gradually increased and has 120 beds in Obgy and 27 beds in family welfare department. The bed occupancy in the department is 150%. Services provided by the department are:
- Out patient for Antenatal, Postnatal mothers, infertinaty cases, Gynaec problems, post menopausal complaints, family welfare services like contraception, MTP and tubectomies.
- In patient services
- Deliveries
- Gynaec surgeries etc.,
The staff position
Two units are present and one family welfare unit under postpartum programme. Each unit is headed by one professor, Associate Professor and two assistant professors. Family welfare department is having 3 medical officers. In the recent past we have got two senior residents and CMONC doctors under NRHM scheme.

We have two MD post graduates and four DGO post graduates in each year. We get undergraduate students from Osmania Medical College.
Most eminent gynecologists from the state have worked in OBGY department of Niloufer. Dr. T. Seetha, Dr. Sundari Krishna, Dr. Hemalatha Rangachary, Dr. Srimathi, Dr. Sarojini, Dr. Sarathchandrika, Dr. Shyamala, Dr. Y. Jayanthi, Dr. Anita, Dr. Shailaja (Present Principal, OMC), Dr. Padmaja are the few who worked here.
Niloufer Hospital enriches the students with plenty of clinical material. Though we are under staff, we are giving good services to all the high risk cases and statistics speak the same.
