Neena Rao PICU
Dr. Govind Rao C is an almnus of Osmania Medical College and trained as a Pediatrician practising at Amsterdam, Albany, New York, USA. A few years ago, he had a family tragedy that stole his daugther NEENA RAO away from him. In her memory, Dr. Govind Rao has established a charitable foundation that has donated close to $400,000. This money was used to build 4 new operation theatres, a 12 bed PICU, a modern library and a state-of-the-art conference center at Niloufer Hospital.

Dr. Dharma Puri Vidyasagar – Professor Emiratus, University of Illinois, an almnus of Osmania Medical College was the chief designer of the Neena Rao PICU and was instrumental in planning and execution of The Neena Rao Trust Donation. He has trained few doctors from this hospital by sponsoring their training in neonatology at University of Illinois, Chicago, few to mention are Prof. Dr. M. Indrasekhar Rao and Prof. Dr. Vikramjit Singh Vasu.

After establishing Neena Rao PICU at Niloufer, Dr. Sagar and Dr. Govind Rao, fecilitated in getting stecker scholarship to a pediatrician from Niloufer Dr. Daruru Ranganath and Nurse Kalle Shiva Kumari for training in pediatric critical care medicine at Columbus Childrens Hospital, Ohio, USA in 2003.

They also arranged for a donation of a ventilator and 103 Ambu bags and many more life saving articles to Niloufer hospital and arranged for their transport to Niloufer by spending 2000 dollars, all these were utilized by the hospital except the ventilators. Dr. Sagar donated manikins to be utilized for training in life saving measures for the nurses, medical students, nurses, which are put to use by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics during their Pals Course.

Neena Rao PICU, inaugurated in the year 2002 and functioning efficiently was visited by the honourable chief minister Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy and appreciated and applauded the work done in this hospital and appreciating the need for many more units like this, announced the raise in bed strength of this hospital to 750 and to establish a state of pediatric center at Niloufer hospital.

Dr. G. Yatrindanath, practising anesthetist of Hyderabad arranged for a donation in the form of revamping the air conditioning of the Neena Rao unit by Dr. G. Ramesh of USA (cost 2.5 lakhs) on the occasion of his children's birthday (Neelim and Rehan).

A research project in collaboration with Dr. Dharmapuri Vidyasagar of UIC, partially funded by the Neena Rao trust, examined pediatric mortality rates was presented to the medical community at the Pas Meeting Toronto 2007, Pediatric Association Meeting in Toronto.
