The Pediatric Anaesthesia at Niloufer Hospital started in 1958 by residents and Asst. Professors under the guidance of Dr. M. Venkat Rao, the then H.O.D. Dept. of Anaesthesiology, Osmania Medical College.Dr. Bankat Prasad Modi, Dr. Narasimhan, Dr. Ramakrishna Vital, Dr. Ramachary, Dr. Sunalini David, Dr. Hussain, Dr. Y.V. Ramesh, Dr. Sundar Rao, Dr. P.S. Reddy, Dr. Aruna Subhash and Dr. Prabhavathi were few eminent Anaesthesiologists who worked in the Dept. of Anesthesiology since inception.
The practice of Paediatric Anaesthesia became standardized and provided training in pediatric anaesthesia for residents from the various hospitals outside Osmania Medical College, and for doctors of Vaidya Vidhana Parishad working in districts and also the doctors all over the state and outside Andhra Pradesh.
The faculty delivered lectures, presented papers at National Forums. Post Graduate students pursued dissertation projects in Paediatric Anaesthesia. The Dept. conducted a CME programme with International speakers in 1997. Alive workshop to demonstrate Regional Anaesthesia techniques in Neonates and children was conducted in 2004 in asociation with Indian Society of Anesthesiology city branch, Hyderabad.
In 1988, Post of Professor of Anaesthesiology was created in this institute, and the first occupant of the chair was Dr. P.L. Sanghi, following, the post was held by Dr. Sudheena Lakshmi, Dr. Khader, Dr. Eswar Prasad, Dr. Meenakshi, Dr. Prabhavathi and presently by Dr. C. S. Gowrav.
Dept. has two OT complexes. One for Paediatric Anaesthesia with four Operation theatres and other for Gynaecology and Obstetrics with three operation theatres and one exclusively for National Family Planning Program.
